This Week's Special Guest - Stacey Kennedy

This week on our AuthorIsland Tiki Hut Blog, we welcome Urban Fantasy author Stacey Kennedy as she stops by to talk about her book FIRST AND LAST, the latest release in her Magical Sword Series.

Stacey's novels are light-hearted fantasy with heart squeezing, thigh-clenching romance, and even give a good chuckle every now and again.

Her journey as a writer began as a way to keep her brain alive since being a stay at home mom can sometimes be a little...let's say numbing. It was an escape from screaming kids, dirty diapers and plain old mom duty.

It started as a hobby, but as the stories progressed it became a passion. Now, Stacey indulges at nap time, especially the juicy bits! Every mom needs a good thrill!

Now, onto a little something that has come up in conversation lately. First and Last is the final novel in The Magical Sword Series. Through seeing the first three stories published I have received a couple reviews saying, “The novel was too short—it went to fast.”

All of the stories in The Magical Sword series are sixty thousand words, so I wouldn’t necessarily say they are short. But I do understand what they're saying. The thing is, I keep them this length on purpose. Why? Well, it’s quite simple. When I read a story I get bored of lengthy details and drawn out moments. I love dialogue, monologue and descriptions that allow me to envision the world. And that’s about it.

To be honest, I could have easily added twenty thousand words to my stories to up the word count and give long descriptions of everything. But as I said, I’m not a fan of reading a book that has that in it. In truth, I usually just skim those parts to get back to the dialogue and the good stuff.

I love a fast paced novel that leaves me turning the page to find out what happens next. I enjoy hearing the characters interact with each other and I get bored when nothing is happening. Needless to say, it’s not much of a surprise I write the way I do. For me, it’s thrilling to be constantly wondering what’s going to happen next.

So, if you’re like me, a person who skims over the lengthy boring stuff, who enjoys danger, romance that warms your heart and sex scenes that leave your cheeks pink...then come give my series a try!

  3. Congratulations Stacey on your new releases! I took the time to explore your website and saw that you have had many new books released in the last few months.

The lengths of the books I read vary depending on my mood and how much reading time I have. Sometimes I like a really long novel that I can get pulled into for days. Other times I want a quick read that can be finished in a few hours. Most days I fall somewhere in between.

Good luck with all of your new releases!

  4. I follow you on Facebook Stacey. We have "chatted" a few times. I am intrigued by your books. I totally ignorant when it comes to the whole e book thing. I cannot read books on my computer. I do have a kindle app on my phone..would that work for htis giveaway? If yes, then ENTER me for the your first book!

Question: Where do you get your inspiration for your stories? Do you feel like you have to reign yourself in for the pink cheek sex scenes? I really want to read your work. It sounds WONDERFUL. Sometimes what I really need is a good quick red cheeked, quick read story that is fabulous! Sounds like I found the perfect place to get it too!

Thanks for the chance to win & Thank you Author Island Tiki Hut!

  5. Thanks for stopping by, Debby!!

Yup, Stolen Dreams just came out and I'm really excited about this one! It's my favorite series I've ever written...I just love the concept and the characters are so fun!!

I've actually just started my first contemporary full-length novel. It's by far the most emotional story I've ever written so I'm really invested in this story. Hopefully, I'll have it wrapped up in a month or so.

    Thanks Stacie!!

*waves at Mindy* It really depends on the heat level in the story. My menage story that is coming out next month, Bless the Beauty was definitely the hardest love scenes for me to write. It took me 3 days on each one cause I had trouble getting through them. LOL!! Of course, all my stories have passion and lusty scenes, and I always feel peek cheeked after writing them! How could you not?! LOL! Just leave it at...my hubby enjoys when I'm writing love scenes!! ;)

  7. I think that the length of Stacey's books are perfect. I, too, get bored when an author is too descriptive when telling about things that aren't that important. Of course, being descriptive during steamy loves scenes is just fine with me - which Stacey does perfectly :) I love how her books are fast paced - keeps me wanting to turn pages and not put the book down :)

I would love to have Silent Howl. I recently read An Everlasting Bite, and I want to know what happens next!

  8. It depends on my moods, if I'm in the mood for a lengthy, descriptive book then I don't mind. But if I am looking for a quick read then a shorter book is better. If I win I would love to have A Deadly whisper.
